Caruso a Cuba
An explosion on Cuba
May 1920. A bomb explodes in the Teatro Nacional in Havana during a performance of Aida. The world-famous singer Enrico Caruso flees the theatre in panic and disappears for several days. A love story emerges, with a fateful end.
Caruso a Cuba is based on the Cuban novel The messenger by Mayra Montero. Composer Micha Hamel stumbled upon the book at a market in Berlin and was immediately taken by the story. His new opera shifts at lightning speed between various musical styles.
